Mike Ehredt Hyland’s Masters Athlete

Running one Marathon a day for eleven weeks, Mike honors fallen US Soldiers one mile at a time!

Who is Mike Ehredt:
At age 51, this retired postal clerk and army veteran, continues to accomplish physical feats considered amazing for someone half his age. But Mike has learned, and shares with others through his job as a personal trainer, that big dreams are achievable with planning, training and taking care of your body. Day after day, this soft-spoken, Idaho native proves ordinary people can do extraordinary things, which makes him an outstanding Hyland’s Masters Athlete.

For the second time in two years, Mike is setting out on epic runs, to honor fallen U.S. Soldiers. His runs have no political agenda and no statement of protest. Instead, they represent one man’s personal tribute and gift of thanks to the soldiers who have died in service to this country.

In May of 2011, Mike set off on a 500 mile run along the historic pilgrimage route the Camino de Santiago in Spain. His journey purpose was to raise awareness and funds for Honoring Our Veterans, a Jackson Hole, WY, based organization providing social and rehabilitative services to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans.

2010 also marked the dawn of a larger vision, Project America Run – The concept of One Life-One Flag-One Mile to honor fallen American soldiers from the war in Iraq. Mike traveled from the Oregon coast to the coast of Maine, running more than a marathon a day, and stopping every mile to plant an American flag inscribed with the name, rank, age and hometown of fallen soldiers.

This year, commencing on August 25th and ending on Veteran’s Day, Mike embarks on Project America Run II. Beginning on the Canadian border in Minnesota and ending at the Gulf of Mexico in Texas, he will run the equivalent of a marathon a day, for over two months, stopping each mile to plant a flag inscribed with the name of a fallen American soldier in Afghanistan. Since this war is ongoing, Mike will place flags beginning with the first casualty and working in chronological order to the most current.

Credentials:
Mike Ehredt has spent his lifetime establishing a solid base of sports accomplishments. But his pursuit wasn’t the glory; instead he was driven by enthusiasm for new sports and a curiosity about the ability of training to allow his body to accomplish extreme tasks. The fact that he is an athletic beast, who has managed to stay miraculously injury-free, helps too! Throughout his multi-sport athletic career, Mike always turned to running for base fitness and life balance.

•    Beginning as a young soldier stationed in Germany, Mike won the Army Cross Country Championships in 1981
•    Raced as a Category 2 road cyclist for 12 years, qualifying for National Time Trial Championships twice
•    In 1996 he rode 474 miles in 24 hours and raised over $12,000 for Muscular Dystrophy. This in turn led him to a mountain biking stint and he would twice win the Illinois Championships for Veterans.
•    Competed in Eco Challenge Borneo and Fiji
•    Raced Primal Quest California in 2004
•    Two-time, top 150-finisher at the Marathon des Sables
•    Won a national championship in canoe orienteering in 1998

Why Hyland’s loves Mike:

He is an endurance athlete to rival all endurance athletes, yet is completely approachable, and shows there are more reasons to run than getting a finishers medal.  He is humble and selfless and we love his Project America Run mission.

Hyland’s Active Products Mike Loves:
Mike will use Hyland’s Arnica 30x, Bioplasma Sport and Leg Cramps throughout his journey
