Inspiration Series: Morgan Shepherd pits own car

Posted on July 9, 2012 by Derek

“Do not let what you can’t do interfere with what you CAN do” – John Wooden

Welcome to the Inspiration Series! Released every Monday to help you get going with your workweek!

This week’s story: Morgan Shepherd taking the biggest hit of his career and losing everything.

Yet he didn’t let what he couldn’t do interfere with what he could do. And at the age of 70 he’s still racing competitively after 45 years.

Morgan Shepherd was among the biggest names of the NASCAR industry. He was back then what Jimmy Johnson, Carl Edwards and Jeff Gordon are today

Even today, he is still popular with the fans and other drivers

In 1969 he won 21 out of 29 races

But he lost it all

In 1998 an agent and sponsor agreed to help out Morgan and his team.

Morgan got everything prepared for the season without yet receiving a check from the sponsor.

Then the agent pulled a fast one on Morgan: the agent took the sponsor away from Morgan and made a deal with another driver and team.

Morgan already spent the money. He lost everything…..his team, his sponsorship, equipment, parts, etc.

But he never lost his competitive edge.

He would not let what he couldn’t do interfere with what he could do.

He still had a car…..and he would go to races with his wife, Cindy, who would serve as his crew chief and help him push the car for qualifying races.

Morgan pitted his own car. HIS OWN CAR as little as ten years ago.

But as the years go by Morgan built himself back up. He still at a disadvantage financially, but that doesn’t stop him from competing.

And the fans STILL love him.

Do not let what you can’t do interfere with what you can do

Morgan lost it all and came back. And so can you.
